oliver twist

I am currently reading Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. I was intreugued by the movie that was made in the 70's, Oliver!, which swept the Acadamy Awards in it's year of release. The movie really is one everyone should see...it has a striking, young Oliver Reed playing the brute burgler, Bill Sikes- very handsome- but one bad dude. The beginning of the book details the horrid conditions in which orphans lived in London in the late 1800s. Dickens, I think, had witnessed these conditions first hand when he and his sister were taken away from their parents when money was scarce. So, I'm off to read the next chapter!
