cannon beach

This July we took a trip down I-5 to Cannon Beach where
we had a wonderful vacation with the Nelson side of our
family. Cannon Beach was the setting for all of my Dad's
childhood summers. His family owned a cabin next to the
Ecola Lodge. It was that cabin where he and my Mom stayed
for their honeymoon back in 1975.

My parents, Eric and Janine Nelson, at Haystack Rock.
(32 years married this August!)

Walking through all the Cannon Beach shops was really fun.
The girls loved watching the taffy being made here at Bruce's
Candy Shoppe.

Haily meets Watermelon Taffy.

Myka and Uncle Ryan

All the stores at CB have hanging flower baskets or big
window boxes of colorful blossoms. Aaron said he would
make me two like this to go on the front bay windows of
our house- he's so sweet.

Haily and Uncle Scott

Myka and Haily loved all the extra attention and affection
from their grandparents and uncles.

Our lodgings were just a small walk from the beach and
every time we stepped outside we would find cute, baby
bunnies hopping about. The girls couldn't get enough of
feeding them!

I can't figure how I missed getting a picture of Aaron and
myself going out on our hot date to the Lumberyard Grill,
eating fresh Dungeness Crab and catching the 9:10 showing
of the Transformers movie in Seaside. Yes, Aaron loved, loved,
loved Transformers when he was little. The movie was actually
quite good! The lead boy was terribly cute and all the cars doing
their transforming stuff was very cool. (It was actually more fun
to watch Aaron watch the movie, he had a perma-grin the entire
time and he nearly lept out of his seat when Optimus Prime
arrived on the scene!)

name frames

Two and a half years ago, the girls' Uncle Luke and Auntie
Meikel got married and went on their honeymoon to New
York City. They returned with presents for everyone. Our
girls got these colorful name paintings- that I just barely
bought frames for! They will look so darling hanging above
their new matching beds!

'our house, in the middle of our street...'

Our house actually is in the middle of our block of South
13th Street. It's got character but, as you can see, needs
some TLC. Aaron has already sanded, stained and sealed
the original fir floors of the main level. Next is some siding
replacement and a full blown exterior paint job. (I feel tired
just thinking about it!)

These pretty shrubs are called 'pink princess escalonia'.

Two of these brushed nickel sconces now illuminate
either side of the brick fireplace, instead of the previous
sconces, as modeled below:

The kitchen is closed off from the main living
space by this swinging door with push plate,
like in a restaurant.

House Details:

-three bedrooms w/ a side loft
-9' ceilings on main floor
-original brick fireplace
-cobblestone & ivy landscape throughout front yard
-kitchen has 'breakfast nook' and mudroom off the back
-2 large archways in living and dining room
-tons of storage space in basement
-master bedroom windows look out to side yard rose garden (how romantic!)
-a small walk from Myka's elementary school

stan's on 9th east

slope+skateboard=

I wonder if Aaron ever thought he would be
using his skateboard for this...

...and now the annoying slope of our
backyard can be of some use.

haily & aaron

I can't remember what had happened to make Haily
upset, but I do rememer that she did not want Mom
to help that time, she wanted her Dad.

in love

This is our family. Aaron P. E. Gary, Marianne E. N. Gary,
Myka Krystianna Gary and Haily Jane Gary. Here we are
in our front yard having our pictures taken on a sunny,
Saturday morning in late July, 2007.

heartburst

Look at our little girls! My heart is going to burst out
of my chest- I love them so much! How did I get that
picture?!! It is perfect!

my little artists

Myka is into painting these days. It's great. But if we don't
get things cleaned up right away, another little artist starts
to paint...

And then eat the paint! Yikes Haily! That can't taste
good! But she does the same thing with dirt and sand.

my provo girls

In Utah, all last year, I got to be a part of the Provo 1st
ward Young Womens. Lucky me! This group of girls
and leaders was so much fun to know and love. Each
girl was quite her own individual person, yet they were
genuinely devoted to each other as friends and sisters in
this great LDS youth program. I miss them...

Hey! Those aren't young women! Those are the wonderful
P1 boys who helped me get our house ready to sell back
in February at a youth/family service project.

melodee's pilar pobil

My dear Aunt Melodee from Salt Lake City emailed me in
June about a painting she had acquired in honor of Myka.
She had visited the artist Pilar Pobil's latest exhibition and
purchased this mixed medium portrait of a redheaded
woman. I love it. I have a picture of it on my fridge and it
always catches my eye with its vibrant colors and the
woman's intriguing countenance.
